Wednesday 12 May 2010 St Hilaire-St Mesmin to Sully-sur-Loire 63km
Cold day's riding.
We've seen lots of cycle tourists along our way ranging from fully laden (like us) long distance tourists to more casual with just a couple of rear panniers who are B&B touring for a week or so. Today we stopped for a break and a bite to eat on a quiet path when a German fellow of not inconsiderate age rode along toward us. He was fully loaded and on a top class bike. He stopped and chatted for a bit and we offered him some of our fruit cake. He had been on the road for two weeks and was planning on a few more weeks before he made his way back home. After he ate his cake he shocked us by pulling out his cigarettes, he offered us one to which we refused but later we couldnt help but laugh. He had ridden across the US, around the UK and many times around Europe and smoking is not what we had normally associated with 'serious' cycle tourists. Ah the Europeans, they have a different culture to us.
We reached Sully-sur-Loire and came across a 3 star campground so we called it a day. We have been on the road for six days and even plan to have a day off tomorrow.
