Friday 7 May 2010 Angers to Saumur

Friday 7 May 2010 Angers to Saumur 65km
After our two days off we just wanted to ride our bikes so that's what we did.  A couple of interruptions were required (bought a couple of new chains for the bikes and some food shopping) but on the whole we rode trying to get to Saumur, which we did.

Passed through an old slate mine (all the roofs here are slate, even the new buildings)

Not much of note today except on the East side of Angers as we rode through an old slate mine we had to use a hand pulled ferry to get ourselves across the river.  Very exciting!!

We had lunch in a little village by the river

We the saw a sign to the campground we planned on staying at just before Saumur and rode the 1km uphill only to find that they are still closed for the off-season....bugger.  Back down the hill and into the actual town of Samur to find somewhere else.  As we rode down the street we saw a sign for a B&B and the lady was working in the garden.....we have a roof over our heads.

The French people continue to show such courtesy and a carefree outlook we could really get used to.
