Sunday 9 May 2010 Luynes to Chaumont-sur-Loire

Sunday 9 May 2010  Luynes to Chaumont-sur-Loire 63km
Not a particularly exciting day today, just rode through the standard French countryside, while very nice nothing of note, if riding through the French countryside in Spring can be considered nothing of note :)

Left Luynes and rode through Tours which is a bigger town/city and it confirmed that big towns/cities suck when your cycle touring.  The toilets are very ordinary and you cant find drinking water.  Maybe it was made worse because it was Sunday.....maybe.

We've also been coming up with some new lyrics for Alana Morrisette's 'Isnt it Ironic' because everytime we are looking for a place to eat we give up and pick a spot that's a big dodgy and then 200m later there's a picnic table with running water and toilets.  Or when you really need to pee, you end up exposing yourself to the path and 200m down the track is a toilet or at least a good bush.   Or you pick the one star campground with smelly toilets and cold showers only to discover the next morning that there is a four star 1km further down the track.  Ah well, such is life.

At Chaumont-sur-Loire is a Chateaux which was the reason we picked this town to stay.  We had planned to stay the night and visit it in the morning but upon checking the opening times (on the way to get our icecreams) it didn't open until 10am which is a bit late for us but it was still open for another hour so we went in.  It was pretty good, like the heritage sites we visited in England I am in awe at the history.  This chateaux was first built in the 1000s.....that's a long time ago.

After the Chateaux we decided to buy a bottle wine ($6.00) and have a glass while cooking dinner.
